About Me
My name is Jin Yidian. Born into a literary family, I immersed myself in various forms of art from a young age, including Peking opera, calligraphy, choir, handicrafts, dancing, and painting. Thanks to my grandfather's careful nurturing, my interest in art deepened during my kindergarten years. At the age of five, I proactively joined interest classes, marking the
beginning of a nearly 16-year journey in art. Over the years, I've explored sketching, watercolors, animation, comics, and more. Whenever I was in school, I took on the role of the school publicity, sometimes assisting teachers in arranging school events and painting murals. Especially, when I was in kindergarten and elementary school, I used to frequently participate in various drawing competitions and won numerous awards. However, since I entered high school, I seldom took part in these competitions as I became busier with my studies. I pursued O-levels in Singapore and effortlessly entered NAFA for an Illustration with Animation diploma due to my outstanding talent.
Over the three years at NAFA, I honed my skills in traditional Chinese painting, illustration, poster design, book layout, photography, vector graphics, animation production, video editing, UI design, branding, packaging, furniture design, interior design, scriptwriting, app design, and website programming. In the final year's graduation project, thanks to my outstanding performance, I had the opportunity to exhibit my work at the NAFA Graduation Show for everyone to appreciate. It became a special and memorable moment, allowing me to share my artistic creations with fellow students, teachers, and the audience. This exhibition not only recognized my efforts and creativity but also served as a valuable opportunity to showcase personal growth and academic achievements.
During my academic journey, I undertook an internship with the renowned Singaporean fashion brand Well-Bred. Working in the company, I gained experience in clothing design, Instagram ad layout, and photography. My exceptional and dedicated work ethic earned me an A-grade evaluation from both superiors and colleagues.
Do I want to spend the latter half of my life working for others quietly as a mere painter? As a "Chinese Jew" – a Wenzhounese, this is not my aspiration, nor is it the expectation my parents hold for me. I aim to provide a satisfactory response to my five years of hard work in Singapore. I envision a future where, as a woman defying fate! I don't want the latter half of my life to be merely about being somebody’s wife or mother, playing a secondary role behind a man. I am not willing to accept it! I intend to take control of my own life, earn substantial wealth, and ensure that I have sufficient authority at all times. Wherever I go, money will always be my sense of security!
Hence, I've chosen to pursue a degree in communication design. I hope to broaden my perspective through diverse studies, cultivate business acumen, and equip myself with the knowledge for future entrepreneurship.
Additionally, during my five years in Singapore, regular participation in various art exhibitions has allowed me to keenly observe the rapid development of the local arts scene, receiving increasing attention from the government. I believe Singapore is poised to emerge as the artsand culture hub of Southeast Asia. Moreover, I've closely monitored the policy trends of the Singaporean government. With strong support for the future development of the arts industry, I see a favorable opportunity for cultural entrepreneurs. My goal is to combine my experiences in China and Singapore to establish my own art and culture company in Singapore. While my understanding of becoming a cultural entrepreneur is limited, I trust that the UAS's program in Singapore will provide a deeper, more systematic understanding of the art industry, making me more professionally versatile throughout my career. Additionally, I am eager to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the ever-evolving field of my learning career.
